Translation and linguistics internship in Peru: Travel to a remote location in the jungles of Peru with our chief linguistics/literacy coordinator to meet up with a BI translation consultant to help the Wampís as they begin their revision work on their outdated New Testament. Dates are May 19-30 for the workshop. Spanish translation will be provided. Must be able to handle primitive living conditions.
Translation and literacy internship in Mexico: Work with a BI couple, serving as translation and literacy consultants, on our Tenek Old Testament project. Dates are June 23-July 11 (3 weeks) for the workshop. Spanish translation could probably be provided for a fee, but it’s recommended that you know Spanish.
Translation workshop in Chad: Meet up with an experienced BI translation consultant in Chad to do quality checking for the Sara Kaba Naa Old Testament. Dates are July 13-26 for the workshop. French translation could be provided for a fee.
Translation workshop in Côte d’Ivoire: Travel with an experienced BI translation consultant to work with two language groups (Kaowlu and Neao) that are revising their New Testaments. Timeframe is two weeks in September for the workshop. French translation could be provided for a fee.
Translation workshop in Benin: Travel with an experienced BI translation consultant to do quality checking for the Dendi Old Testament. Timeframe is two weeks in November for the workshop. French translation could be provided for a fee.
All internships include a week spent at our Grand Rapids office before the overseas trip and another week after the trip, and they could include the BI consultant seminar in early August.
Cost is around $2,500-3,000, depending mostly on cost of airfare. All internships are unpaid positions, but all past interns have been able to raise funds for their trips. The deadline for application for summer 2025 internships will be March 1, 2025. Internship opportunities can be arranged at other times of the year, as well; application must be started at least 3 months before you wish internship to begin.
