A variety of internships are available for 2026. We offer short-term and long-term opportunities both overseas and in the BI office (Grand Rapids, MI) throughout the year. Internships are available for academic credit or for exposure and experience. Although these opportunities are unpaid, interns are typically able to raise funds specifically donated to them for the internship. Visit the BI Internships page for additional information.
The deadline for summer overseas internship applications is March 1, 2026. The deadline for non-summer overseas internships and all internships based in the BI office is a minimum of three months before the beginning of the internship. If you are interested in an internship, contact us at [email protected] or 616-942-7712
Overseas internships are typically 4-6 weeks long—one week at the BI office, two-four weeks in a workshop(s) overseas, and one final week in the office. The cost is typically $3,000-$4,000. The primary expense is airfare, with a smaller amount needed for food, housing, local transportation, and visas. Summer workshops are listed below. Additional similar workshops are available at different times throughout the year.
Internships based in the BI office can be arranged for 1-3 weeks in length, depending on interest and availability. The cost is $175 per week, which includes housing and meals.
